Karl completed his Masters of Social Science (Clinical Psychology) (cum laude) in 2008 and his Ph.D in neuropsychology in 2017, both at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). He has been registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the HPCSA since 2011 and has dual registration as a Neuropsychologist. His clinical interests include neuropsychology, traumatic stress, and mood and anxiety disorders.

 

Karl is the acting Head of the Department of Behavioural Medicine at the UKZN, as well as the Academic Leader.  

 

Karl is the Executive Officer of the International Union of Psychological Science. He has served as Treasurer of the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA), is a former Vice-Chair of PsySSA’s Division of Neuropsychology and Forensic Psychology, Chair of their KwaZulu-Natal Branch, and a former Chair of their Division of Clinical Psychology. Karl additionally serves as Chairperson of the Durban Practising Psychologists Group (DPPG) and Regional Coordinator (KZN) for the South African Clinical Neuropsychological Association. He was the  representative for South Africa and Africa to the Student Liaison Committee of the International Neuropsychological Society (INS) in 2015-2016.
